Semiya Payasam

Celebrate the Tamil New Year with a delicious sweet recipe Semiya Payasam. A classic Indian dessert, it is quick, easy and can be prepared by anyone. So, start the New Year on a sweet note.

Serves: 3

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • Semiya/vermicelli – ¾ cup
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Cardamom powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Milk – 500 ml
  • Water – 200 ml
  • Aashirvaad Svasti Pure Cow Ghee – 2 tsp
  • Cashew nuts, pista and raisins

Preparation

  • Heat Aashirvaad Svasti Ghee in a pan. Add cashews, pista and raisins and fry till golden. Keep aside.
  • Now roast the semiya in the same pan till slightly golden. Set aside.
  • Add milk and water to the pan and allow it to boil on a low flame. Now add the semiya to the boiling milk and keep stirring.
  • Add sugar and cardamom powder and stir. Cook the mixture for 3-5 minutes on a low flame till the semiya payasam thickens.
  • Garnish with cashews and raisins and serve.
